Home favourite Luna Rossa Swordfish won the first race on the penultimate day of the Venice leg of the America’s Cup World Series yesterday to reduce Energy’s lead in the standings to just one point.

More than 100,000 spectators cheered Luna Rossa Swordfish to victory by 53 seconds from Oracle Spithill.

Artemis led from start to finish in the second race. Luna Rossa Piranha was second.

In the Venice standings, Energy was one point ahead of both Luna Rossa teams, with Emirates a point further back.

Oracle Spithill led the series by one point coming into Venice after the opening four regattas. It was lying fifth in Venice, six points behind Energy.
