The Malta Volleyball Association has been entrusted with the organisation of the Qualification Round of the 2013 CEV Senior Men European Championships, Small Countries Division.
Following the organisation of the Junior Girls’ Championships in January, the tournament, which will be played this weekend, will be the second to be hosted by the MVA this year.
The tournament will be contested by Malta, San Marino, Iceland, Monaco and Cyprus, with the latter perceived to be the favourites to win the tournament. The Monaco team is expected to offer them a good contest.
Malta is fielding a rejuvenated team with a number of players wearing the national colours for the first time.
The first two placed teams from this category will be meeting the first two placed teams from Pool B which is composed of Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Luxembourg and the Faroe Islands and which will be played in Luxembourg.
The fixtures of the tournament are as follows:
Friday 25 May: 2pm San Marino vs Iceland; 5.30pm Cyprus vs Monaco; 8pm
San Marino vs Malta
Saturday 26 May: 10am Cyprus vs Malta; 12.30pm Monaco vs Iceland; 5.30pm San Marino vs Cyprus; 8pm Malta vs Monaco.
Sunday 27 May: 10am Iceland vs Cyprus; 12.30pm Monaco vs San Marino; 4.30pm Iceland vs Malta.
The Qualification round will be held at the Cottonera Sports Complex and the public is encouraged to attend. Entrance is free.
