Malta will host the European Film Academy Awards at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on 1 December 2012 and for this prestigious event a call for stage design is being made. This annual awards ceremony recognises achievements in European cinema in 17 categories, including European Film, European Director, European Actress and European Actor. This year’s ceremony will be the 25th edition and will be organised by the European Film Academy (EFA) together with the assistance of the Malta Film Commission (MFC).

By hosting this event, this will present a unique opportunity to develop Malta’s relationship with the Academy and subsequently promote the island to the event’s illustrious international audience. In addition, the prestigious nature of the awards and the invariable high quality of the productions nominated, as well as the calibre of the filmmakers involved and recognised annually by the Academy, will allow for further exposure to the top echelons of the European film industry that are amongst the most respected worldwide. The awards are the first in the film industry’s awards season, and are considered to be Europe’s version of the Academy Awards. The ceremony will be televised on satellite television to over 50 countries, reaching millions of viewers across the continent. In addition approximately 250 recognised journalists from the international media annually attend and cover the event. It is estimated that around 900 to 1,000 people will attend the awards this year.
