More Adults attend KMS Skolasport Aerobic Fitness classes

Malta Independent Thursday, 31 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Adults attend Skolasport Aerobic Fitness classes not only to keep fit and boost their stamina, but also to relieve stress from work. Organised by Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) and sponsored by Kellogg’s, the class participants exercise to the rhythm of accompanying music and focus their minds on the exercises at hand.

“This year we have seen a sharp rise in the number of participants attending these classes,” said Alice Galea, KMS Aerobics Instructor at the newly opened Kirkop Sports Complex. “Performing physical exercises is a health investment, helps prevent illness and keeps one aware of the importance of a healthy diet. Our weekly class on Wednesday helps participants who want to work off those extra calories and get into shape for summer.”

The 45-minute session kicks off with routine of warm up exercises, followed by HiLo aerobics which burn fat at high energy levels. The class then performs various physical exercises based on movements of the upper and lower parts of the body. These exercises include the Tone & Step, a workout that helps tone and shape, and the BLT (Bums, Legs and Tums) workout which helps build upper and lower body strengths by using hand weights and one’s own bodyweight.

Held at the KMS Kirkop Sports Complex, the Wednesday evening classes are open to adult participants at all levels. The two sessions are held from 4.45pm to 6pm and from 6.15pm to 7.30pm. These are considered as convenient times for parents whose children attend sport sessions at same venue.

“It is very important for children to see their parents active in physical activities while they are practicing a sport,” said Ms Galea. For this reason, KMS Skolasport and Kellogg’s actively encourage physical activities for both adults and children. Kellogg’s invests in the communities where it operates, and is proud to partner with KMS Skolasport for the past 12 years to help improve the lives of the Maltese people.

“Many adults and parents who attended these sessions continue to be active and participate in various fun runs and half marathons during the year,” added Ms Galea.

KMS Skolasport also holds Fitness classes for adults at its various Sports Complexes, including the ones at Cottonera, Marsa, Tal-Ħandaq, Tal-Qroqq, Pembroke and Mosta.

KMS Skolasport participants are now gearing up for their End of Year Sports event which is being held at the Cottonera Sports Complex on Friday.
