Motor-Sport: Racalmuto Revisited

Malta Independent Thursday, 31 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

This weekend, the third round of the Campionato Siciliano di Velocita takes place at the Autodromo Valle dei Templi, and as has come to be expected, Motorsport Team Malta will again be present and challenging for results.

Johann Spiteri was the Maltese flag bearer at the first round in March, when he drove his Jedi Suzuki to an excellent class win in the highly competitive 1000cc Formula race, after putting the car on pole position in Saturday’s qualifying.

Just one month later Adam Bugeja claimed the honours in round 2 of the championship with an excellent 1300 class win and 4th in the large capacity Formula race. Adam and his team had a busy weekend trying to set up the OMS Kawasaki, following a complete rebuild, but after qualifying seventh on the grid, Adam drove an excellent 12 lap race, making up positions as he got used to the car and the circuit, to finish an excellent 4th.

This weekend it’s Johann Spiteri’s turn to race his Jedi Suzuki again in the 1000cc race. The Italians were not impressed with Johann’s convincing win earlier in the year, and will be all out to rectify the situation in their favour. Johann’s main challenge is again expected to come from young Filippo Costa who has been improving from race to race with his Gloria Yamaha.

Qualifying takes place on Saturday afternoon, with all the 12 lap races for the various groups taking place on Sunday.
