The 15th edition of the European Airports Football Tournament was inaugurated at Ta’ Qali yesterday.
The tournament, this year is being hosted by MIA, includes the participation of reigning champions London City Airport and the airports of Bratsk, Dublin, Frankfurt, Hannover, Krakow, Lyon, Moscow Domodedovo, Moscow Aeromar Sheremetyevo, Munich, Munster/Osnabruck, Nice Cote d’Azur and Vienna International.
The Malta team yesterday played its first round matches and ended up second in the
Group. In the first match, the Malta Airport team drew against Krakow, then won its remaining matches, that is 3-0 against Munster/Osnabruck and 2-0 against Dublin.
Malta Airport obtained seven points, same as Krakow, but the latter had a better goal difference and so placed first, with Malta in second place.
Malta will play its first match today in the second roundagainst Frankfurt who placed first in their respective group.
The tournament comes to an end tomorrow.
