Only one game was played from the MCA Summer League last weekend. The scheduled game between Overseas C.C and Melita Betfair C.C was postponed.

The Marsa C.C took on POP Mellieha, with both teams still unbeaten. The POP team batted first and were looking to continue their good batting performances.

Their two main run scorers Haroon Majeed (29 runs) and Usman Khattak (12 runs) again top scored for their team.

The Marsa team bowled well through the efforts of John Farrugia who took two wickets. The POP side were bowled out for their lowest total so far, that of 80 runs.

A feature which stuck out in the POP innings was that there were four run outs, an area in which they need to work on. They were all out in the 16th over.

The Marsa team made the runs in the 14th over with Frank Spiteri scoring 33 runs from 30 balls faced which included two fours and a six.

The Marsa side did not have it all their way when the speedstar Waseem Abbas came on to bowl and took four wickets (all bowled) from four overs bowled. He was the only wicket taker for the POP team.

From the win the Marsa team earned 10 points and are second on the ladder with 18 points (two games played), POP Mellieha earned one point and still head the ladder with 19 points (three games). Third are Melita Betfair with seven points, Krishna with four points and Overseas with two points.

This week the national squad will begin the weekend camp in preparation for the European division two championships with coach Dave Carlisle.

The Sunoco Cricket academy/nursery will be from 9am till 10.30am.
