Malta’s representatives at the EBSA European Championship in Latvia, Alex Borg and Roberta Cutajar, were eliminated yesterday.

Playing in the Last 32, Borg lost 5-4 to Antonis Poullos of Cyprus, while Cutajar lost 3-1 to Wendy Jans.

The Borg-Poullos affair was a nail-biting encounter. The match was quite balanced and it went to 4-4 and on to the last decisive frame.

Borg appeared to be in command at the start taking a quick 41-0 lead, but the Cypriot fought back and slowly but surely clawed his way back into contention.

He went 52-41 ahead with just blue, pink and black on the table. But Borg potted the blue only for Poullos to make sure of his win by potting the pink and black.
