Mental Illness

Malta Independent Sunday, 17 June 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

I am sick and tired of hearing words that demoralise and show lack of respect to people suffering from mental illness.

I am also very much annoyed with the patronising demeanour of certain people, at times even people from the medical sector.

People with a mental illness, like me, have a mind and heart − in other words we have feelings just like other ordinary people do.

I wish that mental illness be treated like any other illness, with no distinction whatsoever.

Why stigmatise an ailing brain that is also part of our body after all, especially with the advances in medicine and treatment that is so more effective?

Kindly reflect on the matter!
