The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club in collaboration with the Malta Tennis Federation is organising the VLTC Kettle Chips European Under 14 Tournament between 2 and 7 July. This is the fifth year that the VLTC is organising this international event and is once again being sponsored by Kettle Chips, distributed in Malta by Red October.
Details of the tournament were given during a news conference held at the VLTC premises which was addressed by the club president Paul Micallef. Other speakers at the conference were David Farrugia Sacco, president of the Malta Tennis Federation and Carlos Cluett, representative in Malta of Kettle Chips.
The tournament will consist of Boys and Girls Singles events with a main draw of 48 boys and 48 girls. Qualification events as well as Boys and Girls doubles events are also being held.
The competition has attracted great interest among junior players across Europe, the Baltic States as well as Russia and the Ukraine. Over 170 players from more than 30 countries have applied to take part.
The Maltese junior players taking part are : Miguel Galea, Zack Ciappara, Alexia Cassar, Rebecca McCarthy, Emily Lightfoot and Katrina Sammut.
Signing in for the participation in the tournament will be held on Sunday 1st July up to 6.00p.m. while the main draws will immediately be held after. The matches in the main draw will commence on Monday 2th July, with the finals scheduled to be held on Saturday 7th July on the Atlas Insurance Centre Court of the VLTC.
The tournament organisers thanked Kettle Chips for their sponsorship, and Simonds Farsons Cisk for their support and invited the Maltese sporting public to attend this event and give their backing to our young players.
