Another table tennis season has just finished and the Malta Table Tennis Association once again concluded a season full of action and activities with hardly a weekend free.

During the recent national championships organised by the MTTA, Mario Genovese went on to win the singles event and also won the doubles with Edward Baldacchino.

This was Mario’s 21st time as national champion having won his first in 1980.

Mario beat team mate Andrew Gambina presently ranked second in the national rankings and Alex Soler on the way and meeting with Daniel Bajada in the final.

This was a match that reached a ‘high’ in technical terms as both players were using maximal power strokes to try and break through each other’s strategies.

At the end Mario won 4-2 to be crowned Malta Champion.

On the other hand, Jessica Pace had a fairly easy passage in the ladies singles as she played Amy Degaetano, Dorianne Magri, and Therese Genovese winning all her matches with ease and thus becoming once again national ladies champion.

In the mixed doubles event there were some fierce moments as Borg Cardona Joe paired with Johanna Grech tussled between the couples David Pace and daughter Jessica and Mario Genovese and daughter Therese. The experience of both Borg Cardona and Grech prevailed and thus became national title holders.

In the Veterans event Paul Dawson fought it out with Joe Borg Cardona in the final with Joe winning the category for 2012.
