Champions Valletta face Trophy winners Hibernians this evening in a match which has already become vital in respect of the winner of the season’s first title.

The two teams made a winning start to the competition last week when Valletta defeated eternal rivals Floriana 2-1 and Hibernians inflicted a heavy defeat (5-0) over Birkirkara.

The winner today will certainly move closer to winning the season’s first honour, even if the last round will still have to be played where Valletta will face Birkirkara and Hibernians meet Floriana later this week.

After the rivalry of last season, one expects a keen tussle between the two teams with the Paolites aiming to take sweet revenge on the citizens for having missed out on the title the past season.

Also, former Hibs coach Mark Miller, now at Valletta FC, will be facing his former boys for the first time. He will certainly not be glad to be defeated in this first match against his ‘old’ boys – and his second for Valletta.

The match is being played at the Centenary Stadium and kicks off at 6.30pm.
