Tennis 10s Workshop supported by GasanMamo

The Malta Tennis Federation is hosting three Tennis 10s workshops throughout the year conducted by Tennis 10’s foreign expert Ronald Pothuizen and Mike Barrell with the support of GasanMamo Insurance.

The workshops are part of the Tennis 10s programme launched recently across all tennis clubs in Malta with the aim of increasing tennis participation levels of children under 10 years of age.

The International Tennis Federation recommends players aged under 10 do not train or play with a regular yellow ball on a full court.

Tennis 10s is a discipline which provides a sound developmental structure for players aged 10 and under, through three-colour-coded stages - Red, Orange and Green. “Smaller, Slower, Easier” is the main slogan for Tennis 10s and its main purpose is to put into place a three-stage version of tennis designed specifically for younger children.

The programme also involves educating clubs and coaches to run Tennis 10s events.

“Thanks to Ronald’s contribution and the continual support of GasanMamo our first workshop was a great success,” said Claire Arrigo, Tennis 10s Coordinator. “We have learnt several new concepts for coaching U10 players and we now have valuable knowledge on how to run informal tennis events at individual club level. We are looking forward to our second workshop happening at the end of June.”

“GasanMamo’s support of tennis training is an investment in sports education for the young,” said director Julian J. Mamo. “We are satisfied at how the Tennis 10s programme is developing, to the benefit of the many young children participating.”

The workshops are also being supported by the International Tennis Federation and Tennis Europe.
