In our letter of 10 June, we had written about the talk doing the rounds in Zebbug that nobody knows where the €70,000 bond deposited by the Hal-Mula contractor which Alfred Grixti, the mayor, withdrew are. In spite of everything, the mayor has not denied the talk!
We had also pleaded with the Prime Minister who seems to be too absorbed in the big trouble he has at home. But where do the Finance Minister, the Fiscal Police and the Local Councils Department come into the story? Do mayors have absolute power to dispose of such a hefty public sum as €70,000 any way they choose, without anyone checking that everything is above board?
Ours is a Labour council and therefore we feel we have a right to also appeal to the Leader of the Opposition. Where are you, Dr Muscat? Enjoying the conditioned air in your Hamrun office? Cooling yourself down in your private pool? Planning more tours abroad away from this scorching heat on your island? Believing Mr Grixti’s tales? Pretending not to know anything about our deal?
The journalists at ONE drone on forever about anything that happens at Mater Dei and elsewhere on our islands except about the state of Mula Street in Zebbug! They never show what we have to put up with. It is not opportune for them to give us a chance to air what we have been going through over the last four months!
Our mayor thinks he can tell as many tales as he pleases. From what he writes in the council’s magazine and the council’s Facebook, he wants to make us believe that all is fine in our town. We never read of any projects in the offing for Zebbug nor do we see any projects in progress! There was a project for the Hal Mula Street but now this project has been at a standstill already for four months! Meanwhile, the mayor keeps on blah-blahing because we have a Mayor of Blah, blah, blah!
It seems that there is no hope for us, the poor residents of Mula Street, of seeing our ordeal come to an end! Our suffering goes on and on and only God knows when our street will be surfaced and our houses free of dust.
