The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially announced that the 2014 World Cup qualifying match between Italy and Malta, scheduled for 11 September, is to be played in Modena.

The Stadio Alberto Braglia is the stadium where Serie B side Modena Calcio plays its home matches. It has a capacity of just over 21,000. The FIGC said on its official website that the venue was selected in solidarity with those hit by the recent earthquakes in Emilia Romagna.

FIGC president Abete said it was only fair that such a match be played in this territory so that all – administrators, the technical sector and the players – could make their contribution to the people hit by the earthquakes by show their solidarity.

The match will be the second qualifier for both countries after having hosted Armenia at Ta’ Qali on 7 September. Italy’s first qualifier isalso scheduled for 7 September – against Bulgaria in Sofia.

Italy will be playing a friendly match against England on 15 August in Berne, Switzerland.

Stephen Grima attains UEFA Pro Licence

Stephen Grima, who is responsible for Coach Education at the MFA , was among a group of 29 coaches who successfully attained a UEFA Pro Coaching Licence at the end of  a course held at the Federal Technical Centre in Coverciano, Italy.
