PL Wants Minister Gatt to be sanctioned

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The number of judgements handed down by members of the judiciary repeatedly finding against Austin Gatt’s ministry is a matter of concern and unacceptable, Labour MP Joseph Sammut, spokesman for transport, said.

The latest in a series of decisions found the transport ministry guilty in a case involving the Garden of Eden company, with the court ordering the government to pay the company €50,000 in compensation.

The capricious behaviour of the ministry is against human rights and not acceptable in a democratic society, Dr Sammut said. The Prime Minister should not only ensure against such illegalities, but also take the necessary steps to sanction Dr Gatt. It is not fair that the taxpaying public is being made to pay so much as a result of court orders against an irresponsible and capricious minister, Dr Sammut added.
