Impressive Joseph Calleja

Joseph Calleja never fails to impress when he sings.

Last Saturday, once again, he was at his best when he was the main participant at the concert organised on the Granaries in Floriana.

He is a born entertainer. Malta should be proud of his “ambassadorial” skills – in the sense of the name that he is giving this little country of ours.

That Stephen Mercurio, the maestro with loads of experience, ended up naming him as the new Luciano Pavarotti goes a long way to explain how Joseph Calleja is held in such high esteem by the experts.

That he finds time to hold a concert in Malta each and every year is also a clear indication that he does not forget where he comes from. In the past, many artists “forgot” about Malta once they made a name for themselves on the international stage. Joseph Calleja did not.

I must also spare a word for Ronan Keating, who impressed me with his own songs as well as with the interpretation of other classics. Being a Bee Gees fan, I was happy to note that he sang Words, one of my favourite songs.
