Cultural, Economic and political priorities of Malta

The consular network of Malta in France met for an afternoon seminar at the Embassy of Malta in Paris last month, when it was briefed on the cultural, economic and political priorities of Malta. The consuls listened to presentations given by Enterprise Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority and the Embassy of Malta.

Malta has a network of eight honorary consulates in France – in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice, Strasbourg and Toulouse. Malta has also an honorary consulate in Monaco. The primary aim of these consulates is to be points of reference for Maltese travelling in France and who might need assistance. They also promote Malta.

Every year the network makes important contributions for Malta’s visibility. This spring, for example, the honorary consul in Lyon, was instrumental in the participation of Malta in the fêtes consulaires in Lyon – a stand which was strategically placed and attracted most attention. The consul in Rouen, on the other hand, provided interesting business contacts and leads for potential investment.

The consul in Strasbourg has been very active socially organising exhibitions about Maltese crafts and the consulate in the city of Lille established valuable contacts with the curator of fine arts with whom, the possibility of bringing to Malta an exhibition of important Flemish Masters is being explored.

The promotion of Maltese sportsmen and contacts with sports agents were provided by the consulate of Malta in Monaco and the consulate of Malta in Rouen was active on trade and investment promotion both at an individual level but also on an institutional level and notably with the Chambre de Commerce de Rouen.

The contact details of the consular network of Malta in France can be found at www.foreign.gov.mt/france.
