Żminijietna – Voice of the Left urges all employees working with the public transport company Arriva to strengthen the principle of solidarity between each other.

Whenever there is unity between workers, there is strength. Through unity, port workers across Europe succeeded in laying pressure on the European Parliament to reject the liberalisation of Europe’s port services directive. The directive would have meant that dock work would have been opened up to untrained, poorly paid workers, in other words to cheap labour.

It’s better if the workers unite to fight against the nonsensical work regulation that was introduced by the government in the public reform, so not to allow half of the workforce to participate in a strike action. This regulation is already in itself creating an obstacle to improve the present working conditions. So one wonders, why are the workers complicating the situation by their disunity.

The decision to establish a house union was a hurried decision. Any House union in the public transport sector, which does not have the support of a bigger federation of unions, representing workers in the transport, maritime and aviation sector will not be very beneficial in their quest to improve their working conditions. Workers should be more cautious whenever choices are to be made.
