17 goalkeepers (15 boys and two girls) from the Mario Muscat Goalkeeper School have attended a one week training camp at Scuola Numero 1 in Italy.
For the sixth consecutive year, thanks to the twinning made by the two schools, Maltese keepers had the opportunity to train in one of the best goalkeepers’ school in Italy which is based in Chianciano, southern Tuscany province of Siena.
Scuola Numero 1, which is run by the experienced Giuseppe De Fidio, has been operating in Italy for the last 19 years and many goalkeepers who attended this school have made it to the top level in Italy.
Goalkeepers like Storari, Anania, Perin, Bindi and Frattali all came out from Scuola Numero 1.
Training sessions were held twice daily focusing on the physical and technical aspect of the goalkeeper.
The group, which was accompanied by Mario Muscat, Simon Grech and Christopher Sant ,also had to opportunity to visit Coverciano (home of Italy’s national team).
For next year’s camp, which will be the anniversary of both schools- Scuola Numero 1(20 years) and Mario Muscat goalkeeper school (10 years) there is a good possibility that the camp will be held at Coverciano and top Italian players like Buffon and others will be invited to visit the school.
