Mdina Trees

Malta Independent Sunday, 22 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I am well aware that the Maltese are world renowned for being the most savage of bird-hunters, the strongest tree-haters and the most passionate lovers of reinforced concrete and cement. However, I was truly awestruck by the unexpected genocidal massacre of the majestic trees, which for decades, if not centuries, have lovingly enveloped the Mdina bastions.

The incredible beauty given to this poor nation gratuitously by nature itself had to pass through the usual Maltese inspired holocaust. And now, as an alternative, we are given an icing sugar wedding cake of orange trees military regimented surrounded b a golf dead lawn which reminds me of the horrors to come. What next? Maybe someone is thinking of regimenting and reinforcing Buskett with the grey dirty blobs of cement so much loved by the Maltese? In fact, I do believe that Buskett lacks such passionate concrete.

Maybe the Mdina experts should take another similar initiative and together with Minister Pullicino level out all the remaining oasis of greenery that have miraculously escaped such Taliban barbarity.
