Turkey's prime minister will attend the opening of the London Games and help promote Istanbul's bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Istanbul's 2020 bid committee says Recep Tayyip Erdogan's presence at the Games sends a powerful message that Istanbul's bid is a government-supported "national priority."
Erdogan is scheduled to attend the games' opening on July 27 and watch some Turkish athletes.
A total of 114 Turkish athletes — 66 of them women — are participating.
The IOC has shortlisted Istanbul, Tokyo and Madrid to host the 2020 games. The host city will be announced on 7 September, 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The committee would also "watch, listen and learn" about hosting the "world's greatest event."
