There were seven records, two national and five new age-group limits, at the 2012 ASA national Championships held at Tal-Qroqq Swimming Complex over the past four days.
The 4 x 50m freestyle team of Andrew Chetcuti, Quelin Zammit, Edward Caruana Dingli and Andrea Agius registered a time of 1:38.78, five hundredths of a second faster than the previous national record held since 2010 by Matthew Zammit, Mark Sammut, Edward Caruana Dingli and Andrew Chetcuti.
The other national record to go was the 4 x 50m medley relay. Neil Muscat, Andrea Agius, Andrew Chetcuti and Edward Caruana Dingli swam the distance in 1:49.71 (previous record 1:51.84)
More age-group records came from Amy Micallef, Neil Muscat, Sarah Demicoli and Andrea Bellia, all Neptunes swimmers under the charge of Gail Rizzo. Micallef swam the 200 IM in 2:31.79 (previous 2:33.0) and Muscat covered the 200 Free in 2:06.19 (previous 2:06.39).
Both these records were in the C category. Another new limit came from the improving Sarah Demicoli in Group B who swam the 200 ’Fly in 2:47.08 to slash a full 4.17 seconds off her previous best set earlier this year.
Bellia beat the group B record of Rachel Sullivan by 0.01 of a second when covering the 100 ’Fly in 1:10.95.
The last record came from Neil Muscat with a 2:18.97 in the 200 IM, group C, 0.97 second faster than his previous best.
