Rubbish Collection

Malta Independent Thursday, 26 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

It has become a habit for rubbish not to be collected before 7am, as used to be the practice some years ago, but during peak traffic hours. This is happening in several localities, including the town where I live, Sliema.

I wonder who came up with this bright idea.

We now have a situation in which many streets appear shabby and dirty, as garbage bags are left outside doorsteps for longer than necessary. Apart from this, the odours in our streets, especially now that we are in the middle of summer, are nauseating.

I suggest that we should go back to the time when rubbish used to be collected before 7am. In this way, we would also avoid having long traffic jams as cars accumulate behind the slow rubbish collection vehicles.

Some common sense please.
