The Olympic Games On PBS

Malta Independent Friday, 3 August 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Public Broadcasting Services are doing a great service to the Maltese sport community. Their historic broadcasting of the Olympic Games for a full 15 hours per day is to be commended.

What I would like to suggest is one thing however – and this is that the commentators and the footage being shown is synchronised.

There have been many occasions when, say, a game of beach volleyball was being shown and the people in the studio were talking about hockey. It’s just not on.

I understand that the Maltese commentators and their guests are watching TV and are not on site, but it would make more sense if they talk about the sport discipline that is being screened.

What should also be avoided is to have a long discussion on sport in Malta while the Games are being broadcast. I can accept a mention here and there, but to base a conversation on a particular sport in Malta when the footage being shown is on international sport is not the right way to do things.

Otherwise, PBS must be congratulated for the effort they are putting in.
