A Siġġiewi man who made disparaging remarks as two policemen were issuing tickets at Ġnejna on Sunday ended up in court yesterday, charged with resisting the police, slightly injuring one of them and disturbing the peace.
Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit heard that Paul Scicluna, 52, was not fined but he made disparaging remarks about the police. Prosecuting Inspector Edmond Cuschieri said that Sergeant Renaldo Cremona and Constable Jurgen Falzon approached him and asked for his details but instead of cooperating, Mr Scicluna ended assaulting them.
Defence counsel Michael Sciriha said it was not only a policeman who was injured, but Mr Scicluna too, having been injured in his knee, in a toe and in his elbow. Mr Scicluna, who pleaded not guilty, was allowed bail on a deposit of €200 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
