Malta Independent Tuesday, 7 August 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

. This meeting was held for the first time at the new ‘Kumpless Sportiv’ located in Kirkop.

ASM members also approved all the 9 ASM Statute amendments concerning the inclusion of other clubs as new ASM members. ASM president Frans Deguara stated that this was another step forward towards ASM as the UEM-FIM recognised federation for all motorcycling sport and tourism in Malta.

During his Annual Report ASM president clearly stated that ASM is heading and reached new horizons where now it is made possible for all Maltese Motorcycle riders to participate in any Italian and European Motorcycle Championships through ASM. ASM lately attended the UEM Motorcycling Congress in Belgrade – Serbia.

This year’s AGM included nominations from new personnel to further assist the association in the vast areas created for its sections. John Micallef, Francis J. Azzopardi and Charles Camilleri were elected as vice-president, assistant secretary and assistant treasurer respectively for the coming year. John B. Cassar, an ex-motocross rider, is now secretary for the Trials section and president to the Motocross section respectively. The ad-interim Trials committee is now elected by the respective members and last year’s Autocross committee was re-confirmed for the coming championship year.

It’s interesting to note that all newly elected committee members were voted in with more the quota required by the ASM statute. This is a clear indication that ASM in general and the ASM sections in particular are being strengthened year after year.  The ASM President thanked all executive members and the ‘AGM Voting Commission’ which was led by J. Anastasi for their good performance during the members voting period and vote counting process too.

Special thanks were directed to the ‘Kunsill Malti ghall iSport’ who offered one of the Kirkop Complex Halls for ASM to hold its AGM.

Following the AGM, ASM organised a special evening get-together in honour of the ASM Pasta Poiatti Championship winners.

During this ceremony ASM thanked all sponsors, supporters and competitors too. Main sponsor Charles Buhagiar of Pasta Poiatti and Lawrence Darmanin (Heavy plant co-ordinator) presented trophies to the ‘Night Event’ winners.

The Autocross, Motocross and Trials Champions and Runner-Up’s were also presented with special trophies and applause by fellow competitors. Firm Directors of Philip Agius & Sons and of Central Asphalt were also presented with mementos for their ASM support especially that of Track maintenance.

Quadbike riders were also presented with trophies for their racing during the night event. Joseph Falzon was runner-up to William Sant.

Gozo Autocross drivers accompanied by their families and supporters attended numerously for this special occasion. Gozo Autocross drivers were also presented with trophies for their participation during the Night Event at the ASM Tracks at Ta’ Qali.

First time Autocross Class ‘A’ championship winner Christian Mark Galea, on a Fiat Ritmo, and runner-up Partick Cassar were presented with special trophies. They will be running with competition numbers 1 and 2 respectively in next season’s championship.
