Aaron Mifsud (Pembroke Athleta) and Carmen Hili (St. Patrick’s A.C.) confirmed their standings at the top of their respective classifications in the second and penultimate race of the Birkirkara St. Joseph 5K road running series, held recently on the Mtarfa By-Pass.

Mifsud has a 35 second lead, while Hili has the series virtually in her hands with a one minute, 25 seconds advantage over her nearest rival.

Mifsud was again unchallenged in this second race, during which he also managed to further improve his winning time on this route. His 16 minutes, four seconds, were five seconds faster than the time he registered in the first race.

Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Steve Chetcuti reversed his third placing in the first race, by finishing second in 16 minutes, 16 seconds, two seconds in front of Simon Spiteri of St Patrick’s AC. 

In the overall classification Spiteri is leading Chetcuti by one second. Second place is thus wide open going into the final race on 21August.

Carmen Hili won the race in 18 minutes 57 seconds, and with her nearest rival, Francesca Arrigo (Ladies Running Club) 51 seconds behind in second place, the former should have no problems to win the series this month.  Johanna Calleja (Birkirkara St. Joseph) was third in 20 minutes, 8 seconds.

The final race in the series will be held on Tuesday 21 August on the Mtarfa By-pass starting at 7pm.
