Birkirkara FC yesterday officially launched Eurosport of Psaila Street, Birkirkara, as their new kit sponsors, during a press conference at Eursport in Birkirkara.
Club president Joe Zammit said the agreement consisted of a sponsorship deal involving the club at all levels, including the nursery.
In fact, the next three years will see the Birkirkara teams wearing adidas outfits. According to Christina Peresso of Eurosport, these kits were a first for the German company – it is the first time that the company has produced a kit in the traditional red and yellow stripes of Birkirkara FC.
Eurosport are this year celebrating their 20th anniversary and this deal with the Stripes was certainly in place. Supporters of Birkirkara FC will also benefit from the deal as a number of items of the club’s merchandise will now be available.
Club president Joe Zammit thanked Eurosport for agreeing to such a deal adding that it will be the first time that the club will be wearing adidas apparel.
He encouraged supporters to make use of the services provided by the Eurosport outlet in Psaila Street.
Coach Paul Zammit was also one of the main speakers. He said the administration did well in obtaining such a sponsorship as these help to give the club the courage to move forward with optimism.
He added that Birkirkara, who have been very active in the transfer market so far, will not rule out the possibility of making further signings to continue strengthening the squad for the coming season.
Shaun Bajada joins Valletta FC
Meanwhile the Stripes also announced yesterday that Gozitan born international midfielder Shaun Bajada had moved to champions Valletta FC.
Bajada had been offered a new contract by the Stripes but the two sides failed to come to terms.
Bajada had joined Birkirkara in season 2007-2008 and had helped the club win their last championship title in season 2009-2010. In all, he made 117 appearances for the Stripes.
Spanish defender
Birkirkara have signed a Spanish defender, Alejandro Mendoza, who will be replacing the departed Pereira in the squad.
Mendoza joins Nikola Vukanac,Joselito Dos Reis, Jhonnattann Da Concecao and Shola Shodiya as the club’s fifth foreigner.
He was a former player of Spanish side Granilla.
He has signed a one-year contract after leaving a good impression in the recently held AME Cup as he helped the Stripes lift the Cup in the last two matches.
He is also expected to play again today against Hamrun S. in the match for the Tivoli Cup at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
