It appears that our miserable little island is condemned to suffer as the victim of the whims perpetrated by the likes of the great Renzo Piano and that other expensive character, Peter Davies of Air Malta.
According to Davies and his acolytes, a bit of flashy paint, which in reality renders the airplane gaudy and cheap looking, is better than the present elegant livery with the unmistakable Maltese symbol perched on the tail. One must be truly naïve to believe that a splash of paint, and a rather expensive one at €1.9 million, shall augment the net sales of Air Malta at the end of its financial year. One must be even more naïve to believe that the launch of the new logo and livery, which by the way is not even original in concept, is a milestone in the restructuring exercise that, according to the chairman Louis Farrugia, after repositioning the airline’s identity it shall become 100 per cent Maltese.
Mr Farrugia, perhaps you may kindly enlighten us about this rather enigmatic assertion, which together with your recent declaration that you are in favour that Air Malta be partly privatised, leaves us well and truly confused.
