Malta Independent Thursday, 16 August 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Festina 10k ‘Night Run’ organised by Zurrieq Wolves Athletics Club is going to be held tomorrow, same place, same time of last year, that is, in Mdina Road in Zebbug, next to St Dorothy College, starting at 9pm.

Fresh from the successful first edition of 10 kilometres by night, this time it is the intention to have the run on a larger scale.

The Festina 10k Night Run is the only night race, run in a completely traffic free environment. A unique atmsophere for local athletes around. Ten kilometres where everyone is competing not only against himself, but also with other amateur athletes.

Those interested to participate in this run can register up to half an hour prior to the start of the race next to the St. Dorothy’s parking area.

Apart from the awards to the first three in both male and female categories, awards will be given to the fisrt in each age category. The first 150 athletes that finish the run will be awarded a commemorative medal as well as a T-shirt. The first in the ‘open’ category both male and female will also be awarded a watch donated by the official run sponsors Festina Watches. Another Festina watch will be out through a raffle among all registered participants.

During the same run, the promising 13 year old athlete Stefano Pace Parascandolo will be fund raising for charity during an 8km Run for Charity in aid of Puttinu Cares. Those wishing to support this noble cause of this young athlete may send a donation of €6.99 by sending an SMS on 50618929. The organising committee will also donate 20% of the proceeds from registration to Puttinu Cares.
