Malta Independent Thursday, 16 August 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The President of Malta Weightlifting Association, Jesmond Caruana, has returned from London where he was selected by the International Weightlifting Federation to do the duty of competition secretary during the Olympic Games. This was the first Olympic experience for Caruana.

During the games, Caruana also participated in the Commonwealth congress where he presented a report about the preparations regarding the organisation of the Commonwealth Championships that are going to be organised in Malta in April 2013 for men and women, senior, junior and youths. The presentation was a great success since many of them already confirmed their participation in Malta.

During the same congress the CWF selected five technical delegates, one for each continent, to start to work for the Commonwealth Games that are to be organised in Scotland in 2014.

Sam Coffa, vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, was appointed for Australia and Oceania, Moira Lassen for America, Kevin DuPlooy for Africa, Subramanya Kumbasi for Asia and Jesmond Caruana for Europe.

This is another positive step for the Malta Weightlifting Association because it is gaining further trust when involved in the international scene.
