Żminijietna – Voice of the Left brings to the attention of the relevant authorities the construction project at Mellieħa Bypass where construction debris is being spilled on the adjacent garigue with probable permanent damage to the ecology in that area.

The debris being spilled is destroying the flora of the area including the Maltese plant ‘is-sagħtar’, which is protected by law. The same happened in the re-construction of roads in other areas, where some debris was spread in areas of ecological importance, beyond the approved area.

We call upon Mepa and all other authorities involved to do their duty and enforce regulations to prevent further destruction of the environment. All construction, including dumping should be limited to the area approved in the permit and not allowed to overspill.
