Teens And phones

Malta Independent Saturday, 15 September 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

My daughter is 14 years old. We bought her a cheap mobile phone so she could call us if she was ever in need of our assistance. Mobile phones, we believe as parents, are a good tool for children when used responsibly.

Last week, my daughter received a phone call from a local provider, telling her she was entitled to a free smartphone handset if she changed provider. The questions I ask are: How do they even have my 14-year-old daughter’s number; and secondly, is it even legal to make business propositions to a minor? The authorities should look into this sooner rather than later; it is wrong.
