Now that the underground car park at Floriana just outside Valletta is being expanded and done up, with a garden on top as it ought to have been originally, perhaps the owners or whoever is in authority (Transport Malta?) might consider re-naming it?

For years, people knew it as the ‘Olympia’ car park; and some still refer to it by that (more civilized) name.

Unknown perhaps to the owners who gave it its new name, throughout the world the acronym MCP means ‘male chauvinist pig’.

When somebody is called ‘an MCP’, that’s not a reference to Malta’s car park (sic) in Floriana, but to an anti-feminist attitude of mind, disposition or behaviour.

In these days of gender equality and political correctness, such an idiotic name should be changed.

Besides, in tribute to our ‘national’ imagination and historical consciousness, we already have the ‘Malta’ National Park in Attard, ‘Malta’ International Airport in Gudja, etc. All we needed was the ‘Malta’ Car Park in Floriana.  

For the rest, given the ever-growing problems people face trying to park in Valletta, welcome to the planned additional parking spaces, and welcome to the belated blend-in ‘roof garden’ shown in the publicised designs!
