Shooting: George Cassar Wins Trap competition

George Cassar won the trap Victoria Aluminium Trophy yesterday, a competition which was held in the MSSF (Malta Shooting Sport Federation)’s ranges in Bidnija.

The competition was very well-balanced, so much so that the winner had to be decided in a shoot-off between three competitors who had all ended in first place with 67 clays.

These shooters were George Cassar, Alvin Vella u Stephen Vella.

The first phase consisted of two rounds of 25 clays each, with the best six qualifying for the final barrage of a further 25 clays.

In the first phase Stephen Vella was in the lead where he hit 47 out 50, followed by Alvin Vella who hit 46 out of a maximum of 50. George Cassar was third with 45 hits out of 50.

In the final barrage, George Cassar hit 22, as opposed to Alvin Vella’s 21 and Stephen Vella’s 20, with all three finishing with a total of 67 clays.

In the final shoot-off, it was George Cassar who had the better of his opponents, with Alvin Vella having to make do with second place, with Stephen Vella classifying in third place.
