Maltese Double Trap shooters William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb were both one clay away from qualifying for the barrage finals with the top six after they managed to make it with the best 12 in the world for the ISSF World Cup final at Maribor.

Both William and Nathan Lee managed 47/50 in their first round, followed by 45/50 in their second round and back to 47/50 each in their third round for a score of 139/150.

Richmond Joshua of USA won gold with 145+47=192/200. Sodhi Ronjan from India won silver with 144+47=191/200 and Aldeehani Fehaid of Kuwait won bronze with 143+47=190/200.

Mosin Vasily from Russia placed fourth with 141+46=187/200; Dahlby Hakan of Sweden was fifth with 140+s/off+4 + 46=186/200; Leybo Mikhail of Russia sixth with 141+40=181/200; Francesco D'Aniello of Italy seventh with 140/150; William Chetcuti eighth with 139/150; Nathan Lee Xuereb ninth with 139/150; Daniele Di Spignio of Italy 10th with 135/150 and Fookev Vitaly of Russia 11th with 131/150.

Fifteen year old Xuereb was the youngest shooter that ever qualified for an ISSF World Cup final in the history of shooting sports.

The Malta Shooting Sport Federation said it was proud to have two Maltese shooters competing in such a prestigious event.

Chetcuti and Xuereb were under the supervision of their coach Jimmy Bugeja.

The MSSF thanked the Malta Olympic Committee and Kunsill Malti Ghall-Isports for their contribution towards the Maltese participation in this event.
