The Premier League resumes this evening with two matches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium where all the four clubs will be seeking a morale-boosting win after some disappointing results.
In the first match, Qormi take on Balzan and this match will be followed by the Melita-Hamrun encounter.
At present all four clubs are positioned at the lower end of the standings. Qormi are the best placed with six points, followed by Hamrun on 3, Balzan and Melita one point each.
In their last encounters, Balzan lost 2-3 against Hibernians, while Qormi lost 4-2 against Mosta. On the other hand, Melita lost 0-2 against Tarxien while Hamrun suffered the biggest defeat so far having been gunned down by leaders Valletta 8-2.
All these were disappointing results for these four teams and today they will be eagerly wishing for a better outcome.
The Qormi-Balzan match might be the most interesting to watch this evening.
Qormi will be doing their utmost to get back on winning track after the Mosta setback, but even Balzan might have felt unlucky to have lost so narrowly to the joint leaders by the odd goal in five.
In the other match, Hamrun will be going all out to wipe off the disastrous 8-2 defeat against Valletta.
On that day, nothing went right for the Spartans, especially in the first half with Valletta scoring six times!
As for Melita, it is obvious they are finding the going quite tough in the Premier League. Unless they show improvement, they will probably be early candidates for a quick return to next year’s first division.
They can consider today’s match as a lifeline as they might also be expected to try to take advantage of Hamrun’s precarious moment.
