Another race meeting will be held at the Marsa racetracktomorrow with a nine race card commencing at 2pm.

This meeting sees the start of the first championship after the summer break. An international field of 46 top class trotters hailing from Finland, France, Italy, Germany, Holland and Sweden, will battle it out over a short 2,140m distance to grab one of the semi-final places in the Cassar Petroleum Autumn Championship.

Many of Malta’s best trotters will participate in these four heats, including current holder Livi Cantona, this year’s Sette Giugno Cup winner Zilver Boko and VOB Cup winner Label Chouan, past championship winners such as Arnie Sensation, Joker de Choisel, Major Chaleonnais, Mont Cenis Honey and Think Yatzee, various Tazza l-Kbira finalists and six newcomers.

Extremely balanced races are anticipated, with uncertain outcomes in terms of both winners and qualifiers.

The meeting also includes a Gold class race on a longer 2,640m distance, featuring recent winner Ygor of Pass, French newcomer Ongle d’Or and a host of seasoned trotters seeking to regain their form either after a long break or some off-colour performances.

The remaining races are dedicated to the Silver, Bronze and Copper classes, with the Copper class race having been scheduled in last week’s meeting, but being postponed due to the occurrence of two incidents.

Championships are the heart and soul of exciting horse-racing at the Marsa racetrack. Horse-owners, drivers and spectators all look forward to a set of hard-fought heats with nail-biting finishes involving some of Malta’s best trotters.
