Liquigas Malta Limited yesterday announced that the prices for LPG gas cylinders have gone up as from today, as a result of an international increase in demand.
The price for a 12 kg cylinder is now €19.60 and that for a 15kg cylinder is €24.50.
In a statement, the company said that prices on the international market of LPG have increased as a result of increased demand within the Mediterranean region related to the start of winter buying.
The cost of gas in March/April 2012 was over USD 1,000 per metric ton (mT) corresponding to a consumer price of €19.70 per 12 kg cylinder.
The subsequent decrease on the international market in June resulted in a reduction in the consumer price of €1.20 (€18.50 per 12kg cylinder) and this price was maintained for three months until last month.
Market prices started to increase again in July 2012, recently hitting USD 1,000, resulting in the current increase of €1.10 per 12kg cylinder.
