Mqabba 1
Vittoriosa S 1
Mqabba and Vittoriosa had to settle for a 1-1 draw, a result that former Premier side Mqabba are still in search of their first win this season.
Both sides can produce much better fare and have to improve a lot to be in the reckoning for the top spots.
The best of the game came in the first half as the second period resulted in a rather scrappy affair.
Mqabba did the early running with an Abeeb shot going inches wide, and minutes later Peter Anizoba’ shot missed the post by a whisker.
On 15 minutes Vittoriosa forged ahead when Lyden Micallef scored a gem of a goal from a distance.
However the same Micallef should have wrapped the match when he failed to score from a very short distance.
Mqabba drew level on 30 minutes when Peter Anizoba’s header from an acute angle finished at the back of the net, with the ball hitting the post before finishing in goal.
Just before the break Vittoriosa went close again with a Gary Muir effort going inches wide.
On the resumption Mqabba had a Lattes freekick going wide and on the other end, goalkeeper Kris Calleja saved his side when blocking a Gary Muir grounder.
On the hour Mqabba went very close when an Andrew Caligari effort destined for the back of the net was blocked by defender Justin Camilleri on the goal line.
There were few scoring chances in the remaining minutes with Mqabba going close to snatching a winner three minutes from time, but Emiliano Lattes could only shoot straight in Cini’s waiting hands from an ideal position.
