Reference is made to the article published in The Malta Independent on 15 September 2012 reporting a press release issued by the ‘Front Against the Recycling Plant at Marsascala’. WasteServ would wish to clarify as follows.

WasteServ would like to confirm that during the period mentioned there were no changes to any of the plant’s processes that could have resulted in an increase in complaints. On the contrary the company has increased mitigation measures to ensure that any nuisances are minimised as far as possible.

During the days indicated, WasteServ did not receive any complaints either from the Council or individual residents. WasteServ would like to remind all concerned that the company is constantly in liaison with the other members of the monitoring committee (namely representatives of MEPA and the Marsascala Local Council). This committee was established to monitor the operations of the plant and to receive any complaints registered; such complaints are discussed and verified during committee meetings which are held from time to time.

Furthermore, the company would remind that it is well known that there are other sources of odours in the area, including some which are of a seasonal nature, and as a consequence points out the necessity for discriminating between sources when attributing any nuisances to the plant.
