The benefits of exercise are numerous. Amongst them is the way exercise strengthens the heart muscle. The risk of suffering from a variety of heart conditions and diseases is known to decrease with physical activity.
To commemorate World Heart Day, the Health Promotion and Disease Directorate will be organising Tai Chi sessions and Walks on Saturday 6 October. The activities will be held at Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park, Marsaxlokk in the morning and Majjistral Nature and History Park, Golden Bay in the afternoon.
It is great to head outdoors and breathe in fresh air, enjoy the breeze and the smell of nature. The scenery in these two parks is beautiful. The surroundings and sunlight will provide a peaceful environment to help you gather your thoughts and calm your nerves.
The activities will run according to the schedule below;
Venue: Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park Marsaxlokk.
Event: Sunrise Tai chi.
Time: 7.30am.
Meeting point: Parking area inside the park.
Event: Morning Walk around the park
Time: 8.45am till 10.30am

Event: Ecological talk at Golden Bay
Time: 4.30pm
Meeting point: Golden Bay bus stop (near Apple’s Eye)
Event: Sunset Tai chi
Time: 6pm

Are Tai Chi and Walking suitable for me?
Tai chi is a graceful, low-impact form of exercise. It is movement performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. It puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it safe and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It is a form of physical activity that is known to help reduce stress as well as a variety of other health conditions including heart disease.
Walking strengthens your heart. Many studies show that mortality rates are decreased amongst men and women who walk regularly because the risk of a heart attack or other coronary event are reduced. The walks are suitable for all levels of fitness. Everybody can do it; no special skills, abilities or training are needed.
Please ensure to wear comfortable shoes and a hat/cap, bring water and apply sunscreen.
If you are consistent with taking up some exercise, you can look trim, slim and simply feel good and defiantly raise your self-esteem. Exercising as well as following a well-balanced meal plan, are key to obtaining a great body. When you look good, you feel good. Keep your heart healthy to improve your life and live longer.
