A draw was a fair result in this game as both teams had their good moments and neither side dominated the other. Valletta are on four points from two games while Hamrun have only one point, also from two games.

Valletta created the first action when Clivert Sciberras served Russell Fenech in the area and Hamrun keeper Clyde Xuereb foiled him with a timely sortie.

At the other end, Ryan Muscat served Kieran Bugeja with a through ball in the area and Valletta keeper Maverick Buhagiar foiled him as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball.

The Spartans kept trying and mounted three actions.

Bugeja served Ryan Borg with a cross from the right and and he drove over the bar from outside the area.

Bugeja was then fouled outside the area and Buhagiar saved in two attempts the free kick by Muscat.

Nathan Hili was fouled on the left flank and Buhagiar was forced to palm the ball away from Muscat’s free kick.

Another two actions were then created by Valletta. Fenech entered the area after dribbling past three opponents but the ball was cleared to a corner. Sciberras released Andre’ Farrugia on the right flank who then crossed the ball to Fenech but he drove over the bar from outside the area.

In another action by Hamrun, Bradley Schembri released Bugeja on the left flank and Buhagiar tipped the ball over the bar to a corner.

Valletta created the last action before the break when Fenech served Paul Lapira with a through ball and Xuereb had to come out of his charge to kick the ball away to safety.

The first action after the restart was created by Hamrun as Bugeja served Muscat with a square pass and Buhagiar saved his shot from outside the area.

Valletta then created three actions in a row. Matthew Spiteri served substitute Michael Simic with a cross from the right and he shot out from inside the area.

Lapira was fouled outside the area and Xuereb saved the free kick by the same player and he also saved in two attempts a shot by Lapira after a square pass by Spiteri.

Hamrun defender Nathan Hili was then fouled on the left flank. Borg floated a high ball in the area and Buhagiar had to palm the ball away to safety.

At the other end minutes later, Hamrun defender Kurt Attard handled the ball outside the area and from Lapira’s free kick Simic headed out from inside the area.

The last two actions before the end were created by Hamrun. Substitute Owen Agius was fouled on the right flank and Buhagiar was forced to dive and save the ball from the free kick by Muscat.

Muscat then served the same player with a through ball in the area but he shot over the bar.
