The Naxxar Higher secondary school

Malta Independent Saturday, 6 October 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I have all but praise for the Naxxar higher secondary school. The students there are happy, and so their parents are happy. It is a school that is dedicated to offering so many good things to its students. Apart from upgrading their academic skills, the teenagers are helped to mature.

The headmistress and staff are all delightful and dedicated people, all ready to give a helping hand when the need arises. It is not a surprise that today, students choose the Naxxar school over the one at Msida as a first preference, even though they would have obtained all the necessary qualifications to go to the Junior College.

There is only one thing that I cannot understand; the fact that the Naxxar School opens its doors in the second week of October. It is possibly the last school to re-open after the summer holidays. Why is it not possible for the school to open in late September or on 1 October?

These students are preparing for their A levels and every single day counts. Many of the students, unfortunately, do not study much when they are not at school, and this means that they lose so much time.

I wonder whether this practice could be changed as from the next academic year.
