Over 60 athletes have confirmed their participation, and a number of foreign athletes, representing the United England, Wales, Ireland, Spain, Denmark and Japan will be taking part. The women’s race promises to be a hotly contested one with current champion Danica Bonello Spiteri (St Patrick’s AC) defending her title, which she has won ten times. Her nearest rivals are Michelle Vella Wood and Johanna Calleja (Birkirkara St. Joseph), though Hannah Pace and Margaret Seguna have proven to be worthy rivals throughout the summer season.
With last year’s winner Dermot Galea out of the reckoning, there should be an interesting battle between Keith Galea (Birkirkara St Joseph), Rudolph Agius (Birkirkara St Joseph) and Fabio Spiteri (St Patrick’s).
Throughout the race, the Salina Coast Road will be closed from 7:30am to 11:00am. Non- participating cyclists will not be allowed on the Coast Road so as to ensure maximum safety to all athletes.
