Premier Race and Cassar Petroleum Condition races

Malta Independent Saturday, 6 October 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Marsa racetrack will host another race meeting next Sunday with an eight race card commencing at 2pm.

This features the start of the Cassar Petroleum Condition Races for the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper trot classes, over the short 2,140m distance. The first two from each heat (three from the Copper class heats) qualify for the final of the respective class.

If last weekend’s Cassar Petroleum Premier heats are anything to go by, spectators will have a lot to entertain them next Sunday. All races are extremely balanced affairs with various in-form horses mixing with exciting newcomers, making the outcome a real challenge to predict!

The two Gold class heats provide a good example, with various horses coming from promising performances, including last week’s winners Orage du Pont and Zerbin, and placing horses such as No Comprendo, Ostheo d’Havetot, Rich Kemp, Soren Sufflor and Ygor of Pass.

The same is the case for all the other heats.

As usual, even the Premier class race includes various interesting features, with the return of various trotters after a long lay-off, including Knockout Molar, Norman d’Avril and Onyx Speed, together with in-form horses such as Chaco Bar, Natif de Salvi and others.

We also have a Class A flat race on a 1,750m distance with a full field of eight horses hailing from five countries. Last week’s winner Cheeky Jack together with Timolin and Friarscourt which also fared well, seek to improve their form, whilst the remaining horses make a return after a rather lengthy stop.

Undoubtedly, an extremely varied programme which is guaranteed to keep spectators on tiptoes throughout!
