KNZ turns 20

The National Youth Council (KNŻ) recently organised an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation. The event was held at St Elmo Breakwater Bridge, Valletta, with the bridge serving as a symbol of youth being the bridge between childhood and adulthood.

Speeches were delivered by KNŻ PRO Karl Agius, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth & Sport Clyde Puli, Opposition spokesman for Youth Luciano Busuttil, Fgura mayor Byron Camilleri, who served in KNŻ in 2009 and PN MP Karl Gouder, who served in KNŻ in 2006.

Also addressing the event were Dr Cory Greenland who served as KNZ President back in 2005 and who is now National Secretary for Professionals, Finance & Services within the GWU, Karol Aquilina, who was the KNZ President in 2003 and who is today the mayor of Siggiewi, Dr Simon Busuttil, KNZ’s first International Secretary in 1992, and now a Member of the European Parliament, and current KNŻ President Matthew Vella.

A reception followed these speeches, with a live performance by Dorothy’s Band. KNZ expressed its thanks to all young people, representatives of youth organisations and alumni for having attended the event.

KNZ website launched

The National Youth Council (KNZ) officially launched the new KNZ website www.knz.org.mt on Thursday at an event held at the Lower Barrakka Gardens in Valletta. KNZ PRO Karl Agius said that this was one of the various initiatives that KNZ was taking to mark the 20th anniversary of KNZ’s foundation.

Ian Buhagiar, who was chosen by KNZ to build the site, explained that it had various tools that would be useful in bringing the council closer to young people and urged anyone with suggestions as to how the site could be improved to please get in touch. Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Minister Austin Gatt was also on hand for the launch.
