A last gasp goal scored by substitute Gilbert Camilleri was a just reward for Naxxar’s superiority throughout the whole ninety minutes.

In fact Naxxar were the better team as they attacked for long stretches, but the Lions were not sharp in front of goal with Darren Falzon having an off day.

The all important and deserved winner came in stoppage time when Gilbert Camileri’s grounder completely deceived Zejtun goalkeeper Farrugia with the ball finishing in the bottom corner of the net-

Zejtun were a disappointing lot as they rarely ventured forward with the Naxxar goalkeeper having a very easy afternoon.

Naxxar missed a sitter after only 30 seconds of play when Ewurun and Rocha Da Silva combined well but Darren Falzon shot wide from an ideal position.

However this was practically the best chance Naxxar had in all the first half. On the other hand Zejtun did not manage a decent shot at goal in the firt fourty five minutes.

The Zejtun midfield was outclassed by the Naxxar midfielders who dominated throughout this half.

However Winston Muscat’s boys failed to deliver in front of goal with their other attempts from Angus Buhagiar and Mattia Del Negro both well off target.

At the start of the second half Naxxar had penalty claims turned down when Darren Falzon lost balance inside the box.

On the hour an Ewurun header was cleared off the goal line by Edward Azzopardi, and the same Ewurun headed well over the bar a well taken freekick by Pablo Doffo.

On 63 minutes Rocha Da Silva fired from the edge of the area with his shot going slightly high.

Three minutes later Angus Buhagiar had a central shot easily saved by Farrugia.

On 73 minutes Ewurun was irresistible in his dribbling as he left three Zejtun defenders in his wake before passing towards Angus Buhagiar whose shot from an angle was slightly off target.

On 76 minutes Darren Falzon headed slightly wide a good Julian Vella cross and seconds later Ewurun hit the side netting with a fierce drive. Deep in stoppage time Naxxar scored the match winner when substitute Gilbert Camilleri fired low from the edge of the area with the ball finishing low at the back of the net.
