Table-Tennis: Daniel Bajada Returns to Italy

Malta Independent Thursday, 11 October 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Local prodigy Daniel Bajada has returned to Italy to form part of ASD Fiaccola, the same Serie B1 side with whom he enjoyed a successful season two years ago.

In fact, during season 2010/11 Bajada helped the Bari side finish in third place in Girone D, narrowly missing out on promotion towards the end of the season. On a personal level, Bajada managed to make giant leaps when he finished ranked 199th following his start at the 1,500th position.

In May 2011 Bajada teamed up with Simon Gerada and claimed the silver medal for Malta during the doubles event at the Games for the Small States of Europe in Liechtenstein.

Bajada’s first commitment was on Saturday at home in Castellana Grotte against TT Top Spin Messina with the latter ending up as worthy winners 5-2. Bajada won 3-1 against Salvatore Manuel Moncada but then lost 3-0 against Daniele Rizzo and 3-1 versus Marcello Puglisi.

ASD Fiaccola’s next commitment is on Saturday against Astra Valdina in Messina.

Bajada forms part of the Elite Athletes Scheme funded by the Malta Olympic Committee.
